IPL 2025: SWOT Analysis Of Punjab Kings

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction has been completed a few days back.  Two days of the auction saw 10 franchises of the competition spend INR 639.15 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. A total of 182 players, including 62 overseas cricketers, were sold during a two-day extravaganza in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah. All the teams have got the cricketers that they have wanted in their team.

There were some skyrocketing bids as well. Some shocking names were unsold at the auction as well. David Warner, Shardul Thakur, and Prithvi were the most shocking names. Rishabh Pant has gone big in the auction as he creates history after becoming the highest-paid player in the history of the IPL auction with INR 27 crore, he was sold to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

The competition is set to start on March 14, 2025, with the final scheduled for 25 May 2025. The IPL Governing Council decided to keep the number of matches to 74 for this edition. Ahead of that, we will be doing a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) Analysis of every team. In this article, we will do a SWOT analysis of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) squad. The Kings came out with the most money in the auction and got some big deals.

SWOT Analysis of Punjab Kings

Strength

During the IPL 2025 auction, teams invested in expertise and star power. The franchise spent heavily on big players like Shreyas Iyer and Yuzvendra Chahal, who bring experience and consistency. The presence of all-rounders such as Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell demonstrates PBKS’s emphasis on variety.

While the additions of Marco Jansen and Lockie Ferguson increase their bowling potency. The team’s fast bowling unit looks good with the presence of Arshdeep, Marco Jensen, and Yash Thakur. At the same time, the presence of Yuzvendra Chahal has strengthened the team’s spin bowling.

Weakness

No proven openers in the opening slot they have Josh Inglis, Priyansh Arya, and Prabhsimran Singh. All the batters are not well-proven in the IPL circuit. Though they have a lot of experience playing in different leagues across the world. But this can be a problem for the Kings in a long league like the IPL.

The franchise paid Rs 26.75 crore for Shreyas Iyer. He would be under a lot of pressure due to the high price tag. The team does not have any great spinners other than Yuzvendra Chahal; if he proves to be expensive in any match, the team has only Glenn Maxwell as an option.

Opportunities

With some players associated with new franchises, they will look for an opportunity to perform better with the side and make a name for themselves. They might help the side win their maiden IPL trophy in the forthcoming season by giving out their best performances.

Other players like Maxwell, and Lockie Ferguson who did not have the best season for a couple of years will look to redefine themselves in the new franchise and become a match winner for the franchise.

Threats

The form of experienced cricketers such as Yuzvendra Chahal, Shreyas Iyer, and Glenn Maxwell will pose the most serious threat to the Punjab Kings in the coming season. If they cannot live up to the price tag it will potentially cause the side to lose games from the start of the campaign. Especially with Iyer and Maxwell who did not have the best IPL last season with the bat for their respective former teams.

PBKS’s possible playing XI

Prabhsimran Singh, Josh Inglis, Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh, Nehal Vadhera, Harpreet Brar, Aaron Hardie, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh.
