The International Film Festival Of India (IFFI) which is happening in Goa is nothing but a topic of news every day. Every star that came to the festival gave us some insiders to their take on Bollywood. Ranbir Kapoor spoke on his sentiments about his late Grandfather Raj Kapoor. Likewise, Kriti Sanon was invited as one of the guests at the festival. In current times Kriti Sanon has proven herself to be one of the biggest and versatile actresses of Bollywood.
After winning hearts since she debuted in “Heropanti”, the actress earned herself a National Award for her remarkable performance in “Mimi”. Recently the actress appeared in “Do Patti” alongside Kajol and Shaheer Sheikh. Following the trend, Kriti Sanon also debuted as a producer in Do Patti. During her interaction during IFFI, the actress didn’t hesitate to address the elephant in the room- Nepotism. At the session Kriti Sanon addressed that it’s not just Bollywood that embraces nepotism, the media is involved in it too.
Addressing the issue the actress said, “I feel the industry is not so much responsible for nepotism. It’s also the media and the audience. The audiences want to watch what the media is saying about certain star kids. Because the audience is interested in them, the industry feels that since the audience is interested let’s make a movie with them. So I think it’s a circle. But I feel if you are talented, you will get there. If you’re not talented, and if the connection is not there with the audience you will not get there.
The National Award winner said that it’s more up to you on how to tackle the ever-existing biases in the industry. If you decide to stay and fight for your work, you will be served with great opportunities after 2 or 3 films. Further on she added that, “When you don’t belong to a film background, it takes time for you to get there. It takes time for you to get those opportunities you crave for. It takes time for you to even get those magazine covers. So everything is a bit of a struggle. But after 2-3 films, if you keep working hard and if you are at it, nothing can stop you.”
Kriti Sanon said exactly what needed to be heard by the people for a very long time. Even if the so-called movie mafias are biased toward the nepo kids, it’s up to the audience if they want to go to the cinemas and watch their movies. In this social media world we are so obsessed with nepo kids that we want to know each and every details about their life. Scrolling through reels about nepo kids every day on our phones won’t help to limit the biases in the film industry.
