Amravati’s rising squash talent, Tanish Malthane, secured a silver medal in the State School Squash Tournament, with Ayush Yerane claiming the fourth position. Both players have been selected to represent Maharashtra in the upcoming National School Squash Tournament.
The State School Squash Tournament, held at Maharashtra Squash Academy (UNDRI) in Pune, saw enthusiastic participation from boys and girls across three age groups (14, 17, and 19) from eight divisions.
In a commendable display of skills, 30 athletes from Amravati competed in all age categories. Tanish Malthane, guided by coaches Ganesh Tambe and Suvidhya Wankhade at Chhatrapati Squash Academy, secured a spot in the under-17 final, ultimately winning the silver medal. Ayush Yerane, another talent from the same academy, secured the fourth position.
Dr. Pradeep Khandre, President of Maharashtra Squash Association, and Secretary Dr. Dayanand Kumar felicitated Tanish and Ayush for their achievements.
Amravati MLA Sulabhatai Khodke extended her congratulations to both players, emphasizing the significance of their accomplishment. Deputy Director of Sports Department Vijay Santhan and District Sports Officer Ganesh Jadhav also conveyed their best wishes for the upcoming national tournament.
The Amravati City Squash Racket Association and Chhatrapati Squash Academy joined in congratulating Tanish and Ayush on their success.
While individual achievements are celebrated, some argue that the focus on specialized sports may divert attention and resources from promoting a broader range of physical activities.
