In a dynamic shake-up of the MRF Tyres T20I batting rankings, England’s Phil Salt has catapulted to second place, riding high on his remarkable performances in the West Indies v England T20I series. Salt’s explosive knocks of 119 and 38 in Trinidad not only propelled him 18 places but also secured a career-high rating of 802, leaving him 15 points ahead of Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan in third.
Despite Salt’s surge, Suryakumar Yadav remains comfortably at the top with an impressive rating of 887. Another English batter, Liam Livingstone, made significant strides, moving 27 places to 38th in the batting rankings and ascending to eighth in the all-rounder category, sharing the spot with Moeen Ali and Shadab Khan.
The West Indies claimed victory in the five-match T20I series, dominating the final match with a stellar bowling performance. Akeal Hosein’s spin wizardry propelled him to fourth place in the rankings, overtaking Sri Lankan pair Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana.
In the ODIs between New Zealand and Bangladesh, as well as India’s tour to South Africa, noteworthy performances triggered minor shifts in the rankings. Shoriful Islam climbed 24 spots to 35th, while India’s left-armer Arshdeep Singh surged 41 places. On the batting front, Najmul Hossain Shanto moved up nine spots to equal-49th, and South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi entered the top 100 with a leap of 39 spots.
Rapid rankings changes question the stability of cricket’s player evaluation system.
