Ali Fazal Was Discomforted With The Violence In Mirzapur

Okay, reader! If you are not living under a rock you must have seen the series called “Mirzapur”. One of the most violent series ever made in India! It keeps you edge with a head cutting off the body every minute. And trust me if you ever even think of starting this series just make sure you are not faint-hearted. The Amazon Prime series will give you so many jumpscares in just one episode, that some movies fail to do so throughout. It dives into long-lived family feuds, gangsters, and the struggle to hold power. The drama, the dialogues, the crazy shootout, and the savage revenge lines are to die for.

Violence is what makes it a banger yet a hindrance for many to watch. There’s one thing called violence and then there’s too much violence. You can put Mirzapur in the latter. So much so that the actor himself is not comfortable with shooting this high range of violent scenes. One of the lead actors of Mirzapur- Ali Fazal recently opened up on how uneasiness he felt in shooting some of the scenes in Mirzapur. The actor felt a certain amount of discomfort in wrapping his head around a few scenes.

The actor said there was a “moral Dilemma” in shooting some scenes as he felt it wasn’t asked for. The actor stated that, “Yes. Now, by way of my privilege, I suppose, it has increased. But I’ve always been a bit… And that’s probably why I’ve lost out on a lot of work. But those moral dilemmas happen. On Mirzapur, there was a scene where I killed someone in what I thought at the time was a very unnecessary way to execute that scene. And I just couldn’t redeem myself. The character also could not have redeemed itself from that. I thought it was just wrong, like why would you write that?” Further on he added, “I had to constantly battle my head and the character’s, and not judge that. And at the same time, I’m asking the filmmaker, ‘Why?’ But then there are so many whys. You sit down with the writers, the directors, and that could turn into an ugly…”

The actor is not wrong on this, I mean if you can show a scene with less violence why add more? Promoting violence at such a level is completely unnecessary no matter how many viewers you earn.
Comment down if you think Mirzapur was well written or directed or some of the scenes didn’t belong there.
