Paul Pogba’s Exit Is A Self-Inflicted Tragedy

Paul Pogba was known to be one of the finest midfielders of this generation. The French footballer was the key member of the 2018 World Cup winning squad for France. He played an important role in the middle of the park for the Les Blues. However, his indiscipline and lavish lifestyle ruined his career. His Juventus career is over after the Serie A club announced on Friday.

The France midfielder’s contract had been terminated even though his doping ban was cut to 18 months on appeal. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) last month overturned the initial four-year punishment imposed by the Italian anti-doping agency NADO, allowing Pogba to resume playing professional football in March. However, Juventus has chosen to end their relationship with the 31-year-old. He returned to Turin from Manchester United.

But it was a string of numerous issues, both on and off the field. Shortly before receiving a provisional suspension for testing positive for testosterone, he played his final game for Juventus against Empoli in September of last year. That test followed Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Udinese. It was their first Serie A match of the previous season, in which he did not even play. NADO then imposed a four-year suspension on him in February.

Paul Pogba is the biggest flop in Juventus

This ruined his career until CAS lowered the penalty. Pogba’s claim that the failed test “was the result of mistakenly taking a supplement prescribed to him by a medical doctor in Florida” was accepted by CAS. Pogba “was not without fault” and “should have paid a greater care in the circumstances” as a professional football player, therefore CAS did not fully absolve him.

Paul Pogba only made ten appearances for Juventus in the 2022–2023 season. Mostly because of a knee injury that also prevented him from playing in the World Cup in Qatar. France lost to Argentina in the December 2022 final. He was also the victim of a case of organised extortion, for which six men. Pogba’s presence in the Les Blues team was different and the way he controlled the game was brilliant.
