FC Barcelona’s 7-game unbeaten run has come to an end. They lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad on Sunday. Hansi Flick’s side was shocked against a high-pressing Sociedad team. However, a controversial goal by Robert Lewandowski was ruled out for offside. Due to VAR’s mistake, the goal was ruled out as they misread the toe of the Polish striker instead of the defender. It was a clear onside, but the goal was disallowed.
The Blaugranes were missing their star man, Lamine Yamal. He missed the game with an injury he picked up in the UEFA Champions League game against Red Star Belgrade. The 17-year-old has been in sensational form with the club and country. His absence on the field was visible with the side’s right wing was not utilised well by Fermin Lopez. The latter could not possess the threat that the teenager does.
FC Barcelona has been dominating in La Liga this season with 11 wins and 2 losses in 13 games. Once they have failed to score on Sunday in the league so far. However, in a long season like this, it will happen the teams will falter in some games. Flick’s side will be looking for a massive comeback after the forthcoming international break. They are 6 points ahead of their arch-rivals Real Madrid.
No Yamal, No Win for Barca
Is Barca over-relient on Lamine Yamal? After the loss at the Reale Arena, it has been a question from the fans. However, Flick will believe it is one of the losses in the season. The side knows how to fight and make a comeback in the next game and arguably they are one of the most dangerous attacking sides in Europe this season. Barca has scored 40 goals in the league so far.
Their high-risk, high-reward game will have some backlash, but in crucial games, they surely will come out better and win the matches. After the international break, they will face Celta Vigo away from home and then have Brest lined up in the UCL Matchday 5. The German manager will be working with the players in the break who are not part of the national squad to keep on the intensity.
