Pakistan’s Win In Australia Do Not Shadows The Bigger Picture Of Their Struggles

Pakistan has created history in Australia. The Men in Green has won their first ODI series since 2002. Muhammad Rizwan’s men came back after being 1-0 down in the three-match series. They outplayed the Aussies at their home. This is a statement win for the side. They have been struggling over the years to find their best of form and combination in the white-ball cricket.

Pakistan won the third ODI by eight wickets and bagged the series 2-1. It also marked their first series win in Australia in 22 years. After losing a heartbreaker at the MCG, Pakistan returned superbly with nearly faultless performances in Adelaide and Perth to outclass world champions Australia, who have enough questions ahead of the forthcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan was energised under Jason Gillespie.

The former Australian pacer is taking over for Gary Kirsten and was fueled by a rampaging four-pronged assault that smashed a shorthanded Australia for 140 in only 31.5 overs. Although Australia revised their lineup in preparation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, their squad was still full of talent, with Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Steve Smith all participating in this series. But the ODI World Cup winners could not perform.

Pakistan’s series win in Australia is a one-time fluke

Pakistan appeared in strong form in all three matches of the series. However, the visitors recovered well to knock Australia out for 163 at the Adelaide Oval, winning by nine wickets, before sealing the victory at the Optus Stadium with another outstanding effort. Haris Rauf was the standout with the ball, taking 10 wickets in three games, while Shaheen Afridi grabbed eight of his own.

In a low-scoring series, Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique’s excellent opening contributions carried them home on both occasions. Pakistan had recovered from a tough first half of 2024, in which they were whitewashed when touring Australia for a Test series. Before losing a Test series to Bangladesh and failing in the T20 World Cup. A Test series triumph against England, followed by this success would boost the team’s confidence.
