Novak Djokovic has been one of the best players of the open tennis era. The Serbian currently is out of touch and is out injured. He recently withdrew from the ATP Finals, as well as the Paris Masters. Djokovic is the defending ATP Finals winner, but he earned Olympic gold in 2024. Speaking to Sport Klub previously, Djokovic said that he will return in 2025 to win his 25th Major Title.
The 37-year-old ace had a patchy 2024. He advanced to the Australian Open semi-finals, where he was defeated in four sets by Jannik Sinner, his first loss in the tournament since 2018. Then, in March, he fell to Luca Nardi in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters, followed by a semi-final loss to Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters. In the Italian Open, he lost in the third round.
He withdrew from the French Open’s quarterfinals due to an injury sustained in the previous round. He lost in the Wimbledon final to Carlos Alcaraz. The Paris Olympics were his tournament, and he defeated Alcaraz to win his first Olympic gold. At the US Open, he lost in the third round to Alexei Popyrin. But this does not take away the legacy that he has earned over the years.
Novak Djokovic’s ‘Unbeatable’ label has been overhyped
Darren Cahill’s praise for Novak Djokovic is a ”Warning” sign. Speaking to Italian media outlet Corriere della Sera, Jannik Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill warned players about Djokovic and called him ‘a legend’. Cahill said, “Do not believe that Djokovic is doomed. He is a legend and legends always find a way to get out of difficult moments, otherwise, he would not have won 24 Slams.”
The coach further added that “he demonstrated it in the way he won the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Sinner’s goals? We will not focus too much on the ranking; being number 1 at the end of the year is a fantastic result, but now we must raise the physical and technical level for the Slams, starting from the Australian Open.”
