Diljit Dosanjh has been a star singer in recent years. He performed his most famous Dil-Luminati concert at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. However, the concert faced severe backlash after it was well-attended. The concert is now making headlines for reportedly damaging the JLN Stadium. Indian, track and field athlete, Beant Singh expressed his anger on social media. He tweeted photographs and video of the stadium in chaos following the concert.
The weekend Diljit Dosanjh concert drew over 35,000 people each night but left the stadium, which is usually dedicated to sports, in disorder. The stadium’s track and field area was littered with garbage, alcohol containers, and damaged athletic equipment. Punjab FC is the Indian Super League (ISL) team that plays at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. They are dealing with the consequences of the event as they prepare to face Chennaiyin FC on Thursday night.
With Punjab FC now in fourth place on the ISL points standings, the squad was hoping for a perfect field to give them an advantage. Instead, players and staff faced debris, and stadium personnel scrambled to fix the field on time. This showcases the darker side of the concert and how people create chaos in the stadium, and litter it with garbage.
JNL should stop hosting concerts
Should international stadiums be allowing having concerts in India? With this kind of crowd approach it should immediately stop hosting concerts. As Beant Singh shared on his Instagram, “This is where athletes train, but here people had alcohol and partied. For this, the stadium was closed off until yesterday. The athletics equipment has been broken and thrown to the side.”
“Such is the respect of the athletes. And then every four years, they will talk about the Olympics but will not support at the grassroots level.” The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi is a beloved arena among Indian sports lovers. In the past, it has hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games, footballer Bhaichung Bhutia’s farewell match versus Bayern Munich, the SAFF Championships, and numerous other events.
