For the past few years, England has been one of the worst teams in the world in terms of their playstyle. Many believe the Three Lions have been playing a very boring brand of football for a long time now. Under Gareth Southgate, their former manager, England always managed to come close but in the end, it was always so far away from actually winning any kind of silverware, but the appointment of Thomas Tuchel will definitely change their fortunes.
With Gareth Southgate stepping down from his role as head coach, there were a lot of rumours regarding who would be the man to take over as the manager of the England National Team in the long run. As their interim manager for the time being, Lee Carsley was doing a good job but that was before the shock 2-1 defeat against Greece in the Nations League at home in Wembley.
That was where Lee Carsley’s fate was sealed and he must have started packing his bags right there and then. Now with the English FA contacting Thomas Tuchel, who was until last week in contention for replacing Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United for the England job, the Three Lions have made good business you must say.
Unlike their last few managers including Gareth Southgate, none of them have had the taste of winning as a manager as much as Tuchel. Thomas Tuchel has not only won the League in Germany but also won the Champions League with Chelsea and has a possession-based style of play with a strong rest defence and creative midfielders getting freedom which would suit this English side.
Under Tuchel, players like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer will further grow and England will benefit as a whole. There’s no doubt that Thomas Tuchel’s signing was thought with an eye towards the next FIFA World Cup scheduled in 2026 in the United States of America.
