Netflix’s hit show, Emily In Paris premiered its 4th season in September this year, when the fans were left with some surprising yet shocking revelations. The show ended its last episode with Emily shifting in Rome, and leaving her life in Paris. While many were excited to see something fresh in the coming season of Emily In Paris, others were disappointed by the sudden pivoting of the whole idea of the show based in Paris changing its location to Rome. We weren’t the only ones not in favor of the lead characters heading to Rome, as it turns out, French President Emmanuel Macron was disheartened too.
Macron said the country “will fight hard” to keep the show shooting in the Fashion Capital. In a recent interview he opened up about his opinions on the show relocating to Rome, he said “We will ask them to remain in Paris, ‘Emily in Paris’” in Rome doesn’t make sense,” The show follows Emily Cooper, an American girl in her mid 20’s something, who moves to Paris from Chicago, to work as a marketing executive. She faces cultural challenges and language barriers while trying to make her way through the French people. The show highlights the adventurous yet chaotic life of Emily trying to balance her romantic life, work, and friends. The show received criticism on many ends, for its witty comments on French people and their culture, for its fashion choices, and for the never-changing dynamic of the story.
French President Emmanuel has its ties with the show for a while now, his wife even appeared for a cameo in the 4th season of the show when Emily spotted her sitting in a café and asked for a selfie. Following his wife’s cameo in the show the President expressed- “I was super proud, and she was very happy to do it,” Macron said about his wife’s cameo. “It’s just a few minutes, but I think it was a very good moment for her. I think it’s good for the image of France. ‘Emily in Paris’ is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country. For my own business, it’s a very good initiative.”
While the show has been open to criticism from some French viewers for leaning to Parisian French jokes, It also increased tourism for the fashion Capital.
