D Vinayagamurthy of Tamil Nadu and Samarth Sahita of Maharashtra advanced to the third round of the 29th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship in their respective categories during the ongoing junior week of the tournament at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi on Tuesday. In the girl’s singles Under 16 category, D Vinayagamurthy looked in sublime touch and produced a big upset.
She defeated second seed Ranjhana Sangram by 6-2, 6-0 in straight sets to reach the next round where she will go up against 16th seed Prachi Malik. Samarth carried forward the positive momentum from the previous match to notch up a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 victory over Neel Kelkar of Maharashtra in the boys singles Under-16 category. He will face Mahijeet Pradhan (Maharashtra) in the third-round match.
Parthasarthi Mundhe and Prateek Sheoran qualify for the third round
Meanwhile, top seed Prateek Sheoran also moved into the third round of the boy’s singles. In the Under-16 category after registering a commanding 6-0, 6-0 win over Abhivadya Mishra of Karnataka. In the girl’s singles under-14 category, the third seed Parthasarthi Mundhe sailed into round 3 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Shazfa SK of West Bengal.
Top seed Aahan beat S Visanakarra 6-0, 6-2 in straight sets in the second round. Besides the prestigious titles, the winners are awarded prize money with a total prize pool of over Rs 21.55 Lakh and Kit Allowance in the junior categories up for grabs. The winners and runners-up in the U16 and U14 singles events will also receive a Tennis scholarship of ₹25,000 each.
