Hollywood is back with one of the best romantic comedies, reminding us how it was in the good old days. “Nobody Wants This” is the perfect blend of romance and comedy.
For a long time, Hollywood hasn’t come up with something so up-to-date that could draw audience. In recent times Hollywood has been struggling to capture the essence of authentic relationships, relying more on unrealistic plots and being more of a fantasy than a romantic story. Finally after a long time, Hollywood gave us something we can call a peak rom-com. Netflix’s Nobody Wants This features the story of Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) who just got out of a long-term relationship and falls in love with a sex podcaster Joanne played by Kristen Bell.
The series falls under the feel-good movie genre- a perfect mixture of love, laughter, and drama. What caught the audience off-guard was the fact that it’s a real-life story inspired by the producer of ‘Nobody Wants This’, Erin Foster. The series only came on air on 26th September and Adam Brody is the latest heartthrob of town. He brought his charisma and wit into the character making it the perfect blend of a sunshine boy or the gen-z would say “Golden Retriever”. The director did a pretty good job of not shying away from the unpolished and awkward sides of relationships, which makes it even more relatable to our lives. A perfect balance of honesty and small romantic moments makes it more humorous and easy to connect with.
For a long time, it felt like Hollywood was on a hiatus from producing the perfect rom-com that can make us laugh out loud at the same time making us delusional for such romance. The real warmth to the movie was its characters and the chemistry between the lead actors. The spark between Adam Brody and Kristen Bell couldn’t let us blink in front of the screen. They both played the characters so well as if they were living it. The rapport and the banter between Rabbi and Joanne reminded us of peak rom-com movies like 10 Things I Hate About You, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and my favorite one When Harry Met Sejal. For me, the real charm of the movie was its cast and its fresh approach to the story-telling.
