Sanju Samson’s Opening Spot Will Backfire For India

India will face Bangladesh in the 3-match T20I series. This is the second T20I series of the new Indian team. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have called off the shortest format. The Men in Blue will be facing the Bangla Tigers on Sunday, at Gwalior International Cricket Stadium. There was doubt of the match being called off due to political unrest. But as of now, it is scheduled to happen.

Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the T20I series due to a back injury. Tilak Varma has replaced him in the squad for the three-match series. The new-look Indian side has taken one regular opener for the side, Abhishek Sharma. It was shocking that Ruturaj Gaikwad did not get on the team sheet despite the side having only one opener.

Ahead of the match, it was a question of who would partner Abhishek Sharma in the T20I series. As per reports, Sanju Samson is set to open for the side. Since making his debut against Zimbabwe nine years ago in 2015, Samson has rarely been confirmed as the first-choice keeper for a complete series, let alone as an opener. He has played 30 T20Is since his debut nearly 10 years ago.

Sanju Samson’s career ended in experiments

Is Sanju Samson being dragged too much by the Indian team? He has played 30 T20Is since his debut nearly 10 years ago. Samson has batted in eight different places, including eleven matches at No. 4. He has started five T20Is, scoring one of his two fifties in that position. It’s an important time for Samson since competition for the opening berth is fierce.

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to be first-choice openers when available, with Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad also fighting for the position. Abhishek impressed in his first T20I series for India, striking a century against Zimbabwe in Harare earlier this year. It will be really to see who gets the opening spot fixed before the T20 World Cup 2026.
