The Tech Mahindra Global Chess League has begun and the star chess players from across the world are participating in the league. Speed Chess has become faster. Because the players receive no increment for their movements. They may lose time, despite being in winning situations. On Friday one similar incident happened as the World No.1 Magnus Carlsen lost the game playing on the Icon board for Alpine SG Pipers.
The Norwegian genius was on his way to defeating Iran-born Frenchman Alireza Firouzja of Triveni Continental Kings. Carlsen had just converted his pawn into a queen and had the bishop. His opponent only had the lone knight, with which he might conceivably force a checkmate. As a result, Alireza, whom Carlsen regards as the game’s most promising young player, emerged victorious. Continental Kings also won the match by a wide margin, 17-4.
Magnus was left frustrated after having a winning advantage on the board from the 26th move itself against Firouzja. This will be a huge loss for the World No.1 who has never given a chance to his opponent. This is the excitement of Global Chess with the time ticking down and the moves have to be fast yet better than the opponents.
Magnus Carlsen losing his best touch
Has Magnus Carlsen lost his touch? Not really, Magnus remains the best Chess player in the world. Previously Viswanathan Anand and Magnus Carlsen turned back the clock for a now-rare showdown. The clash between their sides, Ganges Grandmasters and Alpine SG Pipers ended with a victory for Carlsen’s team. The two previous world champions drew 48 moves at Friend’s House. But not before Anand’s rooks alternated harassing Carlsen’s king.
Carlsen’s team will look to bounce back in style and win the competition. This can be an eye-opener for him and his team that time is a crucial aspect in the fast-paced league. In the other game, Vidit Gujrathi misses a win against Arjun Erigaisi due to the same reason time. With many more matches left, it will be an interesting competition as the matches go on.
