Ranbir Kapoor is undoubtedly one of the finest commercial actors in India. He has time and again reminded the audience of his unwavering talent with a diverse filmography. His upcoming projects are a few big-budget films like Ramayana and Love & War where he might establish himself as the new-gen superstar that Bollywood really needs at the moment.
But, this exact superstar narrative is nothing but an extremely well-crafted PR strategy by his team which made almost everyone believe that he is indeed the next biggest superstar of this country but, personally, I feel like every superstar in this country has bought a slight cultural shift in the society with his work. People, apart from their fans, too have adopted the shift and are completely aware of the stardom the superstar carries. I feel it is too early to call Ranbir Kapoor the biggest superstar of our country as he has yet to deliver a few iconic characters and have a larger cultural impact apart from just superhit films.
He has seen some of the biggest moments of his career in the past two years, he was all over the news for his marriage with Alia Bhatt and immediately after for the news of his wife’s pregnancy. Apart from the family news he also delivered huge hit films like Brahmastra, TJMM, and the highly controversial ‘Animal’ but, these few hit films cannot be the right explanation for his image that is being formed.
This situation is similar to what Shraddha Kapoor’s PR tried to do with Stree 2 by portraying it as a film that solely found success due to Shraddha Kapoor’s Character and her stardom whereas in reality the rest of the leading men had a more important role in the film and contributed the same in the film’s success. PR teams are just doing their job at the end of the day and Ranbir Kapoor’s team creating a Superstar narrative isn’t a crime.
I am a huge fan of his work and have been following up with all his releases but in my opinion, we’re still a few films away from calling him a ‘superstar’. What do you think about this? Do you think he is the biggest superstar of this generation? Let us know in the comments.
