Nagpur’s Vishwaja Deshmukh and Mumbai’s Arjun Singh won the Meghraj Roadge Memorial Cup under-9 state championship chess tournament. The tournament was organized by Chess Academy at Dream Palace, Police Welfare Center. With the approval of the Maharashtra Chess Association and Solapur District Chess Association. The competition was awarded by Arun Rodge.
Prize distribution of the competition was done by entrepreneur Bhausaheb Rodge. Academy president of Solapur Mahesh Dharashivkar, entrepreneur Dinesh Jadhav. Founder president of Prayas Samaj Sanstha Sachin Shinde, secretary of the organization Sumukh Gaikwad, international scorers Atul Kulkarni, Santosh Patil, and Subhash Upase were prominently present. After the final eighth round of the Swiss League-style tournament, Mumbai’s Arjun Singh won the championship.
They scored seven and a half out of eight points in the boys’ group. He was honored with a cash prize of two thousand rupees and a trophy. 10th ranked Meghansh Pujari of Mumbai, 3rd ranked Raghav Pavde of Pune, 18th ranked Ishan Laddha of Amravati. 12th ranked Shaurya Bhondve of Pune, 14th ranked Vihan Pandey of Mumbai and unranked Shelar were equal to six and a half marks. Saras Bokols (42.5) tied Meghansh Pujari as the runner-up.
Twesha secures 2nd position in Chess Tournament
He was felicitated with INR 1,500 in cash and a trophy. Raghav Pavde secured the third position. Ishaan Ladda, Shaurya Bhondve, Vihan Pandey, and Sami Shelar got fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh positions respectively. Haiyan Reddy of Pune who scored six points came eighth, Varad Patil of Sangli came ninth and Darsh Raut of Thane came tenth.
In the girls’ group, after the final eighth round, the first seed Tvesha Jain of Mumbai, and the sixth seed Vishwaja Deshmukh of Nagpur had equal seven points. According to tiebreak points (41.5), Vishwaja won the title. She was felicitated with two thousand rupees in cash and a trophy. Top seed Tvesha had to settle for the runner-up position.
Twesha was honoured with 1500 rupees and a cup. Thia Wagle of Mumbai bagged the third position by scoring six and a half points while Swara Gandhi of Nagpur secured the fourth position. Girish Pai, who scored six points, finished fifth while Mumbai’s Ashvi Agarwal finished sixth.
Karthik Uthara of Thane, who scored five and a half points, was ranked seventh, Swara Parelkar of Mumbai was ranked eighth, Sanmari Paul of Mumbai was ranked ninth and Anvi Hinge of Pune was ranked tenth. They were given cash prizes. The Maharashtra team was selected for the under-nine national selection chess tournament to be held in Pune in December.
