The Age Bias In Indian Cinema Is Unsettling

Jr. NTR and Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming movie Devara has garnered strong reactions from netizens over the age gap of 14 years and the sensual scenes that a song from the movie features. The movie is also being criticized for the invisible chemistry between the both. Netizens also remarked that Jr. NTR looked way out of place in the scenes with Janhvi Kapoor and the casting is too blameworthy.

The Indian Cinema is much appreciated for its glamour but never for its stories. Now, what makes the movies produced in Indian Cinema so dazzling? Is it the plot line, the setup, the dialogues, or the casting? Yes, right there, that’s what makes it so glamorous, the casting. For ages, the director has been casting old actors with young actresses and never old actors with the actresses of the same age or young actresses with old actors. We see the 55-year-old Salman Khan being cast opposite Disha Patani or 50-year-old Nawazuddin Siddiqui being cast with 22-year-old Avneet Kaur.

Aging stars are still being paired romantically with young actresses to give the Box Office a hit making it unethical and disgusting. They’re seen romancing with actresses as young as their daughters, how is it fair to the actors who are struggling in the industry, not to be picked up for any of the movies over the older actors?  How is it fair to the actresses to have such great talent but they’re given the role of mother or supporting character just for the reason that they’re the same age as the leading actors?

Similarly in the upcoming movie, Devara we can see that there is no chemistry between the two, yet they are given a very sensual and intimate song to perform, which turns out to be very sickening.

Let us know, if you think too that the industry need to make some changes on how they cast the actors for the movie and how they should consider some moral aspects.
