It is no secret that Bollywood always cherishes Nepotism and Nepo kids. Karan Johar seems to double his favoritism towards Alia Bhatt as every year passes by. Alia Bhatt, who’s one of the leading actresses of Bollywood never runs out of projects directed or produced by Karan Johar or his production house.
In many interviews, Karan Johar has addressed Alia Bhatt as her first-born but does it give him the right to sideline every outsider and favor Alia Bhatt in the industry for all times? Karan Johar might claim that he works with his instincts and that family background doesn’t matter to him, well the audience isn’t blind, is it?
Recently in an interview, he stated that Alia Bhatt is his first child in many ways and that he has some paternal instincts towards her. As lovely as it may sound, it is verily unfair to other actors trying to make it into the industry. Karan Johar has never failed to mention himself as the godfather of Alia Bhatt. Every episode of Koffee with Karan, in which Alia Bhatt appears, sparks controversies on the special treatment he receives by the host making the other guests feel like they don’t belong there, be it Kriti Sanon or Karthik Aryan. For me, one of the best moments on Koffee with Karan was Karan being called out as the “flag bearer of nepotism” by Kangana Ranaut, by which even Karan Johar himself appeared a little unruffled by the call-out.
It’s not just the words spoken in interviews that support this argument, it’s the actions too. Recently, the trailer of Jigra came out which stars Alia Bhatt and Vedant Raina, brace yourself for this, the movie is co-produced by none other than Karan Johar. Many more movies by Alia Bhatt like SOTY, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Kapoor & Sons, Dear Zindagi, Raazi, Kalank, and Brahmastra: Part One have some association with Karan Johar and his production house- Dharma Productions. If this is not the display of preferential treatment, then tell me what is. Karan Johar may not label himself as the flag bearer of nepotism, but he certainly stands as the torch bearer of Alia Bhatt’s career.
