Galacticos Real Madrid’s First Real Test: Will they Pass or Fail?

It is no secret that Real Madrid have been massively struggling in the new La Liga season. But if you talk with most Madridistas, they will be calm about their season. For they know, that they are supporters of Los Blancos. In Madrid, football seasons start a bit later than they do in other clubs. Because the Real Madrid DNA dictates, “No Matter how you start, You have to Finish strongly”. And more often than not, finish strongly they.

But this season is a bit different. Even the most loyal of Madrid fans are expecting their team to outperform their opponents right from the starting whistle. And that is because there cannot be any excuses now from Carlo Ancelotti’s camp. Not when Florentino Perez has assembled a team full of superstars. A team worthy of being called the Galacticos. Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchoumeni, Fede Valverde, Rodrygo Goes, Antonio Rudiger, Dani Carvajal the list goes is never-ending.

But despite all the talent in the world being at their disposal, Los Blancos have only won 2 out of their opening 4 encounters while drawing the other two. Meanwhile, their eternal rivals Barcelona, are cruising ahead on the backs of La Masia’s talent. And now on Matchday 5 of the 2024/25 La Liga season, Real Madrid will be facing their toughest test yet. A fixture away from home, in the daunting confines of the Reale Stadium in San Sebastian against Real Sociedad.

There is a reason why Real Sociedad have eery consistency when it comes to finishing amongst the top 6 in La Liga. And the reason is the city of San Sebastian and the Reale Stadium. Sociedad’s home record over the past few seasons has been impeccable time and again and is on par with Barcelona and Real Madrid’s home records. Since the 2017/18 La Liga season, Real Sociedad has finished in the top 6 every single time and also have 2 top 4 finishes to their name.

In the current La Liga season Real Madrid’s toughest opponent yet have been Real Betis who Madrid beat 2-0 at the Bernabeu. But playing Sociedad in San Sebastian is a task of much higher difficulty. So will Real Madrid’s Galacticos finally start firing on all cylinders on Saturday? Will Real Madrid’s season “finally start” against Sociedad? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
