Cristiano Ronaldo’s Egoistic Comments Must Have Made Pele Turn in His Grave

It doesn’t matter whether he is playing or not, Cristiano Ronaldo always finds a way to grab the headlines. The former Real Madrid star, considered one of the Greatest ever in football recently broke records yet again. Now, Ronaldo breaking records isn’t that big of news since he has been doing it consistently for the last 2 decades, but this time Cristiano broke records outside of Football.

The Portuguese International who is the most followed individual on Instagram recently started a new YouTube channel named, UR Cristiano. The YouTube channel, unsurprisingly gained Millions of subscribers overnight and broke all sorts of records; reaching 1 Million, 10 Million, and now 50 Million YouTube subscribers in record time. At the time of writing, Cristiano Ronaldo’s YT channel sits pretty at 52.8 Million Subscribers, in just over a week of its inception!

In a recently uploaded video, Cristiano sat down with Manchester United Legend and former teammate, Rio Ferdinand and talked about his thoughts on the last season and his future amongst other topics. This video has blown up on Social Media for all the controversial reasons.

During the podcast, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand were talking about the future of CR7’s career when Ronaldo first mentioned his dream of scoring 1000 goals in his professional career. Talking about how everyone criticized him for his poor performance in the recent edition of the Euros, Ronaldo reminded everyone that he is still the highest international scorer in the game’s history.

Further, the 39-year-old stated, “Soon I will do 900(Goals) and after I will beat 1000(goals).” To provide context, at the time of writing this article, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 899 goals in his professional footballing Career. And if there is one player who can push for and achieve that 1000 career goals mark, it undoubtedly has to be the one and only, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Childish comment on Pele

While this confident yet hint of egoistic nature has always been Ronaldo’s character, what came next was unexpected. Following his earlier statement, Ronaldo said, “First 900 goals after my challenge is to beat 1000 goals. But with one difference. All the goals I score, they have (it on) video, so I can prove that (it’s true).”

This was undeniably a barb towards the late Brazilian legend, Pele. A few years ago, in the eyes of the sane-minded, Cristiano surpassed Pele in the total number of Career goals scored. But apparently, this didn’t go down well with the Brazilian legend. Who changed the number of goals he scored in his Instagram bio to 1,279 goals from the previous number of 769. Even his club Santos changed their history books to favour Pele. This “new” total now included the goals Pele scored in friendlies and unofficial matches including a match he played against the Army at an exhibition event.

Further in the podcast, Cristiano went on to say, “And if you want more goals, I can bring (them) from the Training too. So no problem” This wouldn’t be the first instance of Cristiano Ronaldo’s childish and egoistic behaviour though. It has happened many a time in the past, like when he wrote under an Instagram post that made a case for him to win the Ballon d’Or, saying, “Factos”.

What’s more is that during the same podcast, while replying to the criticism he received after the Euros, Cristiano Ronaldo stated, “People say I didn’t score goals at the Euros. They forget I scored two goals.” Surprised? Well obviously. The goals that the number 7 is talking about came from the two Penalty shootouts that Portugal featured in. Since when does one count them as official goals only Cristiano knows.

As a 39-year-old, Cristiano Ronaldo should stop being insecure now. For a personality that big, and with the kind of massive following he has, taking shots at a deceased individual, that too someone of Pele’s stature no matter the circumstances is downright unjustifiable.
