Real Madrid beat Atalanta 2-0 yesterday to win their 6th UEFA Super Cup, the most amongst any other team. This was Madrid’s first game since the signing of Kylian Mbappe and they did not disappoint on the pitch. Best believe that this Real Madrid squad is the scariest squad in the world. To put how good they are into perspective, Madrid currently has arguably the top 3 best players in the world, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, and Jude Bellingham.
To compete against them would be a true nightmare as Atalanta found out last night. After the match concluded, Jude Bellingham spoke about the game and talked about “Having fun” on the pitch. Well, when your attacking four consists of, Vini Jr, Mbappe, Rodrygo and Bellingham, sure having fun is one way of describing winning trophies.
The tremors of Madrid’s win will be felt all across Europe. Barcelona, Atleti, Man City, Bayern, and every other big club in Europe this season already know which is the “Team to Beat”. At their full potential, this Madrid squad of Guler, Endrick, Jude, Vini, Valverde, Camavinga, Tchoumeni, Brahim Diaz, Mbappe, and on and on, almost feels illegal to have. And with a coach like Ancelotti to mentor this Galacticos team, they seem unbeatable.
But only time will tell if they truly are on the pitch, what they are on paper.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, gear up to compete against Los Blancos
In the Spanish division, two of Los Merengues’ biggest rivals, Barcelona and Atletico have been busy in their respective transfer windows. Barcelona have bought in Dani Olmo, while Atletico have built a very intimidating lineup and recently completed the signing of Man City striker, Julian Alvarez.
In the capital of Catalonia, there is high optimism about their young starlets who have impressed with the National team. Mainly, Lamine Yamal the seventeen-year-old has garnered a lot of spotlight after his brilliant Euros 2024 performance. With many key players returning from injury, a young core of emerging talent, and under their new Head Coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona will look to reclaim the league title soon.
Real Madrid’s strengthening has in turn led to other teams in La Liga attempting to get to their best. Even Diego Simeone who more than often doesn’t like splashing money in the market did exactly that to strengthen his squad. There was a time when La Liga was the best league in the world, and the recent events are once again leading football in that direction.
