Football has been a global prospect of earning for many business tycoons, NBA players, and former footballers as well. Over recent years it has been a trend for music stars, NBA stars, and Hollywood actors to invest in the clubs or buy some shares from the club as well. The stars from across the fields do this for the sake of love for their favourite clubs and players.
NBA over the years has turned out to be the best basketball league in the world. The sport has become globally famous and it continues to develop. However, it’s still not as big as the most popular sport in the world, association football. This is the very reason some NBA players are starting to embrace the sport, with international players leading the charge.
Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic support Real Madrid, while Giannis Antetokounmpo loves Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. But the footballers cannot but the NBA teams. Professional sports may appear to be wealthy due to lucrative player contracts. But in reality, many team owners seek value rather than profit. In NBA someone cannot directly invest or buy shares of the team. But people can be financially involved more indirectly. But football does not have the same rules as the NBA so the famous basketball player LeBron James has shares of his favourite club Liverpool.
Footballers cannot invest in NBA teams directly
Why they cannot invest directly and become an indirect member? The footballers have the option to buy shares of publicly traded companies that have sponsorship or other types of arrangements with the NBA. They can also buy shares from media organisations that allow fans to watch the games, or companies that own or are affiliated with NBA franchise owners.
Some of the NBA stars Steve Nash has stakes, in clubs Vancouver Whitecaps FC and RCD Mallorca. Magic Johnson is the co-owner of the club LAFC in MLS. Kevin Durant used to have stakes at Philadelphia Union and now he has invested in Paris Saint-Germain as well. James Harden has acquired stakes in Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash.
