India’s miserable performance continues in Paris Olympics 2024

India’s performance in the Paris Olympics 2024 has been disappointing. The nation has won three medals so far. All of them are bronze and have come from the Shooting event. The performance of Indian athletes in the Paris Olympics on Wednesday turned out yet again upsetting for the fans. Women’s Table Tennis Team, Final Panghal, Sarvesh Kushare, Annu Rani, and Jyoti Yaraji faced defeat.

Women’s Wrestler Antim Panghal was defeated by Turkey’s Zeynep Yetgil in the Freestyle 53 kg category. In the final Panghal had to accept defeat by a huge margin of 0-10. After this defeat, the challenge of the final Panghal is not over. This is because if Zeynep Yetgill reaches the final round, the finalist Panghal has a chance to participate in the repechage round. However, she has been deported back to India due to interdisciplinary actions. 

Wednesday turns black for India in the Olympics

The Indian women’s table tennis team suffered a defeat in the quarterfinals. Germany defeated India 3-1. Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath could not make it to the top four. Sarvesh Kushar failed to reach the final in the high jump event. In his first attempt, Sarvesh jumped 2.15 meters. He was unsuccessful in all three subsequent attempts. Despite finishing 2nd in Group B of the qualifiers. He failed to reach the finals. 

Indian athlete Jyoti Yaraji clocked 13.16 seconds in the fourth round of women’s 100m hurdles. Although she did not qualify directly for the semi-finals with a seventh-place finish, Yaraji will get another chance in the repechage round on Thursday.

In the women’s javelin event, Annu Rani threw 53.55 meters in her third attempt. She could not make it to the finals. She finished 15th in Group A with a best effort of 55.81m. The nation is eyeing Neeraj Chopra who won gold in the Tokyo Olympics and is favourite this time as well.
