India has so far won three medals in the Paris Olympics 2024. All three medals have been bronze and come from a single event Shooting. The rest have disappointed so far in their respective events. Most of the athletes have finished 4th and missing out on the bronze medal. There was a huge turnaround of things on Wednesday when Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for being 100gm overweight.
Since then nothing has been in place for the nation. Wrestler Antim Panghal’s accreditation has been cancelled by the Paris Olympics organising committee as a disciplinary action. She is being deported back to India with her four-member support crew. Antim had earlier slumped to a humiliating 0-10 defeat to Turkey’s Yetgil Zeynep in the women’s 53 kg category. The incident occurred after the wrestler asked her sister to collect her belongings at the Games Village.
While her sister managed to enter the Village, she was caught by the security officer while leaving. Immediately she was taken to the local police station to record her statement. The police also called the 19-year-old junior world champion Antim to record her statement. The wrestler Vikas and Bhagat, two support staff members, allegedly travelled in a cab and refused to pay the cost, prompting the driver to call the cops.
Controversy strikes India yet again
Yet again a controversy against an Indian athlete? Previously it was Vinesh Phogat who was troubled by the Olympics committee and now Antim Panghal. There has been a question of integrity from the committee. Not a single thing has been given time in favour of the nation. It has created a huge fuss around the country and among the fans as well.
The Indian Hockey team had also suffered something similar as they had to play with just 15 players in the semi-final against Germany. It has been a problem for the nation as the IOA has not given many favourable decisions to the nation.
