Indian archers settle for mediocrity; raise disappointment

India so far has won three medals in the Paris Olympics 2024. The nation has yet to perform as per the fans’ expectations and they are away from doubling their medals tally this year. Indian archers have yet again given disappointment this time in the mixed doubles category. They have failed to clinch a medal in the category losing to the USA in the bronze medal match.

Previously the Men’s and Women’s teams failed respectively. Both teams lost in the quarter-finals of the event. But Dhiraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat qualified for the semi-finals in the mixed doubles. However, there they lost against South Korea 5-2. Then in the Bronze Medal Match, they faced the USA, which they lost 6-2. So far there has been disappointment in the archery section for the nation.

Previously the men’s team has failed to deliver at the right time. The side lost to the newcomers Turkey in the quarterfinals. The debutant made their first semi-finals as well. Turkey has never been counted among the powerhouses in the world of archery. The Women’s team lost to Netherlands 6-0 it was a one-sided game as the team failed to perform under pressure.

It all comes down to Deepika and Bhajan for medal contention

Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari have been one of the most consistent performers for the nation. Both the girls are there in the quarter-finals of the event. They have a chance of qualifying for the semi-final and at least bring one medal to the nation. The latter will face Germany’s Michelle Kroppen.

Kaur will be up against Indonesia’s Diananda Choirunisa. Can the two girls keep up the pressure and win in their quarter-final games? Before coming to the tournament Deepika was a strong contender in the Olympics. Kaur is just 18-year-old and she has a lot of pressure under her belt to perform at this age. But the veteran has participated in three Olympics previously. They have a huge task ahead waiting for them on Saturday to make the nation proud.
