Indian Women’s Archery Team Advances to Paris Olympics Quarter-Finals

The Indian archery team got off to a flying start to their campaign at the Paris Olympics by reaching the quarter-finals. Seasoned archers Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Bhajan Kaur entered the quarterfinals with a brilliant performance in the team event.

In the team competition held on Thursday, the Indian women’s archery team finished fourth with 1983 points. The Republic of Korea finished first with a record 2046 points. China (1996) is second and Mexico (1986) is third.

Ankita Bhakat is ranked 11th in the women’s individual archery competition. She scored 666 marks. Bhajan Kaur finished 22nd with 659 marks. Experienced Deepika Kumari is in 23rd position with 658 marks. In the individual event, the Indian archers’ performance turned out to be disappointing.

Opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on Friday

Although some of the sports at the Paris Olympics have already begun, a special opening ceremony will take place on the banks of the Seine River on Friday. The ceremony will start at 11 pm according to Indian time. The ceremony will take place on boats along the six-kilometre course of the river Seine. 10 thousand 500 players will participate in this ceremony. For the first time, the opening of the Summer Games is being held outside the stadium.

Sharath Kamal, Sindhu flag bearer

Gagan Narang will lead the Indian team in the opening ceremony. P. V. Sindhu and Sharath Kamal will be the flag bearers. India’s largest contingent of 117 athletes has participated in the Paris Olympics.
