Nikhil Wagh and Shreyash Joshi from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar achieved remarkable success by winning the team silver medal at the Commonwealth Cadet and Junior Championship held in New Zealand. This notable achievement brought pride and recognition to their hometown.
In the team sabre event of the Junior Commonwealth Games, Nikhil Wagh and Shreyash Jadhav, representing Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar internationally, showcased their exceptional skills and determination. The Indian team, comprising Wagh, Jadhav, Lakshya Badsar from Haryana, and Ronit Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, delivered an impressive performance throughout the competition.
The journey to the silver medal began with a dominant victory in the first match, where the Indian team defeated Scotland with a commanding score of 45-19. This strong start boosted the team’s morale as they headed into their next challenge. The second match was a nail-biting encounter against England, where India emerged victorious with a close score of 45-41. The win was hard-fought and demonstrated the team’s resilience and tactical prowess.
However, in the final match, the Indian team faced a formidable opponent in Australia. Despite their best efforts, they were overpowered and had to concede defeat with a score of 31-45. Although the loss was disheartening, the Indian team’s overall performance was commendable, earning them the well-deserved silver medal.
The silver medal win was celebrated by various dignitaries and officials. MLA Satej (Bunty) Patil, the former Minister of State for Home Affairs of Maharashtra and the President of the Maharashtra Fencing Association, extended his heartfelt congratulations.
He was joined by Working President Shivaji Raje Jadhav, Deputy Director of Sports Sanjay Sabnis, Deputy Director of SAI Dr Monica Ghuge, Joint Director Sumedh Tarodekar, General Secretary of Maharashtra State Fencing Association Dr Uday Dongre, District Sports Officer Bajirao Desai, and other notable figures such as S.
