India Government provides Rs.470 crores expenditure for Paris Olympics

A much-needed initiative has been taken by the Indian Government ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. The central government has spent crores of rupees on the preparation of various sports and athletes. It is reported that the central government has spent about Rs.470 crores. The decision has been made to increase India’s medal tally in the multinational event. Every Indian athlete is expected to perform well in the Paris Olympics. 

The government has allocated funds for the preparation of the Olympics. After javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra’s gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The Javelin thrower has got Rs 5.72 crore. India’s track and field athletes have received the largest share of government funding this Olympic cycle. According to the report of ‘PTI’, the government spent Rs 96 crore 8 lacks on athletics. As per the official data of the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). 

This time around 470 crore rupees have been spent for the preparation of India’s 16 matches. 5 crore 38 lakh was spent on athletics under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) in the previous Olympic cycle. 28 athletes led by Neeraj Chopra will represent India at the Paris event. The Indian team consists of a total of 118 players. Considering the seven medals won last time. This time the expectations are high. The very reason the expenses are also been increased.

Badminton receives second most financial assistance

The Badminton players will receive the second most grants. They have received Rs 72.02 crore, followed by boxing (60.93 crore) and shooting (60.42 crore). The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Indian men’s team received Rs 41.29 crore in the last three years, while the government spent Rs 39.18 crore on archery. Wrestlers received Rs 37.80 crore from the fund while weightlifting received Rs 26.98 crore.

Horse riding received the lowest financial support of Rs 95 lakh. Tennis received the assistance of 1 crore 67 lakhs. Golf received the assistance of 1 crore 74 lakhs. Sailing (3.89 crore), Swimming (3.9 crore), and Judo (6.3 crore) also spent less than 10 crore.

Achanta Sharath Kamal and PV Sindhu will be the flag bearer for the country. The Table Tennis team received financial assistance of Rs 12 crore 92 lakh. According to official statistics, the country’s badminton players received the most support. In terms of experience and overseas tournaments. 

They made 81 tours. Shooters made 45 overseas tours. Followed by Tennis (40), Athletics (31), Table Tennis (28), Wrestling (27), archery (24), Boxing (23), sailing (22), hockey (18), Judo ( 18), Golf (12) and Swimming (11). The Indian hockey team received the highest amount of Rs 41.81 crore in personal and specific sports-related expenses. It includes expenses for 76 national camps and 19 foreign tours.
