Anwar Ali becomes the Luis Figo of Indian football; as he signs for rival club

Anwar Ali has been one of the most prominent names in Indian football. The Punjab-born defender is making the headlines currently. The center-back has pen downed a five-year contract with East Bengal FC. He was in contract with the arch-rivals Mohun Bagan SuperGiants for a loan deal till 2027. But as things stand there has been turmoil since the last 24 hours. The Delhi FC owner Ranjit Bajaj has been involved in the discussion.

Bajaj on 10th July at midnight posted on ‘X’ stated that Anwar had terminated contact with the Green and Maroon club and would return to Delhi FC. Now, here the question arises for the fans. The contracted footballer leaves the club or terminates the contract. Things get messier and to clear out the facts. The owner gave clarity about the matter.

The FIFA rule that was changed in 2022 says, “A loan agreement may be concluded for a minimum duration of the time between two registration periods and a maximum duration of one year. The end date shall fall within one of the registration periods of the association of the former club. Any clause referring to a longer duration of the loan shall not be recognised.”

Anwar Ali needs NOC from MBSG

This rule change has been identified by Mr. Bajaj. He has rightfully approached the other clubs for the permanent transfer of the central defender for the upcoming season. The All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) and MBSG management are both unaware of the fact. The chaos has been created after the signing of the footballer in the arch-rival club.

FIFA gave time for clubs around the world to adopt the regulations. The statement read, “At the domestic level, FIFA’s member associations will be granted three years to implement rules for a loan system that is in line with the principles established at the international level.”

The player, has, written to the club to terminate the loan early and request a permanent move, which eventually did not happen. This is the very reason he has contacted other clubs and East Bengal has roped in the defender on a five-year deal.
