Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon dream shattered yet again

Novak Djokovic after a win over Alexei Popyrin (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6) at Wimbledon on Saturday evening, has qualified for the fourth round. The Serbian will be facing Holger Rune on Monday in the RO16. Thus far, Djokovic leads head-to-head 3-2. But this will be their first meeting in the grass court. He had a tough game against Popyrin. He came back after losing the first set and won by the finest of margins in the last set.

Recently the 24-time major champion underwent an operation to repair a torn meniscus and he has not fully recovered yet from the rehab. He still sporting knee support on his right leg. The game against the Danish 15th-seeded player will be tough. He had an impressive third-round comeback, trailing in the first two sets over Frenchman Quentin Halys in five sets. There have been close fights between the two in the last five meetings.

Rune would like to take the advantage of an injured Djokovic. He defeated him back in 2023 at the Italian Open. The former has a very good chance to qualify for the quarter-finals of the major tournament. Previously the No.2 seeded player also shared his thoughts of playing against the Danish.

Will Rune take advantage of Novak Djokovic’s injury?

The 21-year-old reached the quarterfinals where he lost against Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. This time he will look to get on the hands of the Grand Slam trophy. This is the best chance to beat Djokovic who is not fully at his best in the tournament so far. The Serbian is still working with the physiotherapist to play in the next match.

The match-up between the both is very close and the fans will be expecting a high-quality game from both the players on Monday. Last year’s finalist will look to win his 25th major trophy and do what it takes to earn the silverware in the upcoming days. The winner of the game will be facing Arthur Fils or Alex de Minaur in the last 8 of the competition.
