In response to the millions of gym-goers using inappropriate footwear for strength training, Adidas has launched its latest high-performance footwear, the Dropset 3. This shoe is meticulously designed to cater to the specific demands of weight-based exercises, providing enhanced stability, breathability, durability, and grip. This innovation aims to help athletes improve their performance during lifts, sets, and reps.
Dr. Leada Malek, PT, DPT, a renowned sports physical therapist, collaborated with Adidas to emphasize the importance of using the right footwear during strength training. Dr. Malek explains, “Unknown to many, their current choice of footwear is not optimizing their strength performance and, in many cases hindering it through increasing their energy exertion, risk of injury and interfering with normal foot function. In fact, research shows that footwear, which is fit for the individual and the demands of strength-based exercise, can positively impact posture, reduce pain and injury risk as well as enhance quad activation. This shows that adequate footwear is a crucial aspect in helping athletes remain consistent with their participation so they can achieve their training goals. When selecting the optimal strength shoe, gym-goers should always consider the support, stability, cushioning and grip that it offers.”
To understand the prevalence of incorrect footwear use during strength training, Adidas conducted global research. The study revealed that seven out of ten individuals wear the wrong footwear for strength training. Nearly one-third of respondents wear running trainers, while three in ten opt for everyday trainers. The survey also explored the reasons behind their choices, finding that one in four had not heard of strength-specific footwear. About 20% of gym-goers cited ‘flat soles’ as a key factor in choosing their shoes, indicating a need for greater awareness about the benefits of strength-tailored footwear. Comfort, support, and grip were also significant factors influencing their choices.
The Dropset 3 represents Adidas Training’s commitment to helping next-generation athletes achieve their fitness goals with confidence. This launch builds on Adidas’ mission to address gym intimidation, or ‘Gymtimidation,’ and its longstanding partnerships with sports powerhouses like Les Mills and Tonehouse.
Specifically designed for the explosive movements required in strength training, the Dropset 3 includes several tailored enhancements. Providing each wearer with added stability, breathability, durability, and grip, the new silhouette features Adidas’ HEAT.RDY technology and an upgraded geofit construction to help keep feet cool, comfortable and support. Key features of this innovative footwear include:
- Low Midsole: With a 6mm drop height, the low midsole offers a flat, grounded feeling for controlled stability. This design helps distribute weight evenly and transfer force efficiently from feet to ground, promoting accurate alignment during weight training.
- TRAXION® Rubber: The multi-directional outsole, featuring TRAXION® rubber, provides superior grip. This added traction helps athletes feel securely anchored to the ground, reducing the risk of slipping.
- Integrated Airflow Window: Strategically placed within the sole’s TORSION SYSTEM, the airflow window works with the upper knitted mesh material to enhance ventilation, keeping feet cool and comfortable.
Aimee Arana, Adidas Global General Manager of Sportswear & Training, spoke about the significance of the new Dropset 3. “At Adidas Training, we are committed to supporting our athletes on their respective training journeys and want to help optimize their performance at every step. Knowing how many individuals are unknowingly wearing the incorrect footwear whilst performing strength-based exercises underlines the additional awareness that is required. We know this type of training is a priority for next-gen athletes, so we are proud to be able to offer them a solution that can bring stability and strength to their routine.”
The new Dropset 3 will be available starting June 25th at selected retail stores and online at adidas.co.in/strength.
This launch signifies Adidas’ continuous effort to provide athletes with the best tools to excel in their fitness endeavours.
