International Olympic Day, celebrated globally on June 23rd, saw a series of enthusiastic activities organized by the Nashik District Multi Games Association, Kalika Mandir, Yashwant Gymnasium, and various sports associations. This year, a sports rally took place on Sunday, June 23rd, following a route from Kalaram Mandir to Kalika Mandir.
India’s esteemed football players, including renowned goalkeeper Brahmanand Sagoon Kamat Sankhwalkar, were special guests at the event. Other notable attendees included J. K. Bhosle, President of the Maharashtra Breeze Association, and Hemant Pandey, President of the Multi Games Association, who together lit the sports flame. This flame was then carried by 105 athletes through key locations such as Panchvati Karanja, Sunday Karanja, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Meher Signal, C. B. S., and finally to Kalika Mandir via Gadkari Chowk.
In his speech, Brahmanand highlighted the crucial role the Olympics play in an athlete’s career and reiterated that through hard work, athletes can reach the international stage and the Olympics. J. K. Bhosle praised the sports organization’s efforts, noting that such initiatives provide substantial support and encouragement to young athletes.
At Kalika Mandir, President Keshav Anna Patil welcomed the Krida Jyot and the Chief Guest, Brahmanand Kamath. Throughout the Olympic week, various sports events will be held, with these dignitaries playing a significant role in the competitions. Nashik’s sports enthusiasts are encouraged to participate and support this initiative actively.
