India’s cricket maestro, Ravichandran Ashwin, finds himself caught in the aftermath of Cyclone ‘Michaung’ that wreaked havoc in Tamil Nadu, leaving Chennai and its surroundings grappling with waterlogged areas, power blackouts, and disrupted mobile networks. Despite rains subsiding on Tuesday, the aftermath of the cyclone continues to pose challenges for the city.
Ashwin, a Chennai native, took to social media to shed light on the dire situation, revealing that his locality has been without electricity for over 30 hours. Expressing concern for the widespread impact, he stated, “This is the situation in most areas. I don’t know what option is left.”
The cricketer has been actively sharing photos and video clips of the city’s conditions, emphasizing the damage caused by the cyclone. In a video posted on Monday, Ashwin showcased the battered roads, urging patience for the rehabilitation process. The impact of the cyclone has been severe, with 16 reported deaths in various rain-related incidents across Tamil Nadu.
Despite some relief with reduced rainfall on Tuesday, Chennai faced extensive waterlogging, power cuts, and disruptions in mobile networks. Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena highlighted the challenges, mentioning that out of the city’s 42,747 mobile towers, 70 percent are operational. The remaining 30 percent, however, are hindered by power cuts, rendering them incapable of providing communication services.
