Anthony Martial officially announced that he would be leaving Manchester United after nine seasons. He took to Instagram where he posted a video thanking the fans for their continued support towards him. Despite having multiple injury setbacks, Martial was able to bag 90 goals with the Red Devils. His first season at the club, had the fans excited as he scored 11 goals in the league. However, he never really managed to reach his full potential due to injuries.
His best season with Manchester United came during the 2019-20 season, where he bagged 23 goals. He was sent out on loan during the 2021-22 season to attract better offers from other clubs, but Martial’s time at Sevilla was not all that great. He failed to make any impact and returned to United after the season. The 28-year-old has only managed to lodge five starts in all competitions this season. His last appearance came in December and since then he has been out with injuries.
He was expected to be on his way out as INEOS had planned on selling a few players in the summer to make room for a few new additions. Having spent nine seasons at the club, Martial received a lot of love from the fans as he gave them a lot of happy moments. Aged 28, he certainly still has a lot of football left in him, but he will have to sort out his injury problems as that is what has hampered his career.
Which other players could depart Manchester United in the summer?
Manchester United are set to part ways with a lot of their veteran players in the summer. Having already bid goodbyes to Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial, the Red Devils are reportedly looking to sell more players as part of their squad overhaul. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a player who has split the opinion among United fans. The right-back is one of the toughest to get by in a 1V1 situation, but there are a lot of other areas where he needs to improve.
He has only a year left on his contract and the club has not confirmed their interest in keeping him next season. Still only 26, he could attract a lot of attention from other clubs. Manchester United already have his replacement in Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese defender has shown his versatility playing on both sides of the pitch. He has a lot to offer on both ends, which is something that Wan Bissaka cannot do. His performances helped him get a five-year extension, which indicates that the team have complete faith in his abilities.
According to reports, the Red Devils will be in the market for a left-back in the summer. This certainly leaves questions about Luke Shaw’s future as he is the number one choice at the position. The England international is injury-prone and has seen limited playing time this season as well. He will certainly attract a lot of attention in the transfer market, but the club would rather find a second choice instead of selling him as he is one of the best left-backs in football.
