Cole Palmer won the Premier League’s best player award for April. The 22-year-old scored 7 goals and bagged a single assist in four games that he played last month. He had two consecutive hattricks at Stamford Bridge, which came against Manchester United and Everton. Palmer became the first Chelsea player since Eden Hazard to be awarded the Player of the Month award. The Chelsea player also won the PL Goal of the Month for his stellar goal against Everton, where he nutmegged Jarrad Branthwaite on his way to finding the back of the net.
With three games left in the Premier League, Cole Palmer already has 21 goals and 9 assists in 31 appearances. Despite Chelsea’s poor performances, the English player has delivered every time he has taken the field for them. His brilliance helped him earn two England call-ups. He is now in the running to be part of the Three Lions’ squad for the upcoming Euros to be played in Germany.
In a young team like Chelsea that has lacked leadership, Cole Palmer has stepped up and carried them throughout the season. The Blues are now placed seventh in the PL standings, but could very well finish in the European spots if they win their remaining games. Palmer has been one of the biggest reasons behind their recent revival and they will be hoping that he continues his brilliance to help them qualify for European competition, thereby making something out of the current season.
Does Cole Palmer deserve to be the Premier League Player of the Season?
Cole Palmer was recently nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Season award. Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Virgil Van Dijk and Ollie Watkins are the other nominees for the award. Palmer is only second behind Haaland and Watkins in Total Goals and Assists this season. He has 30 G/A for a Chelsea team that have struggled to find the back of the net at times.
His calmness on the ball and confidence to glide through defences is what makes him a special player. Playing in what can be considered his debut season, Palmer has introduced himself in style to the Premier League. He had a few appearances with Manchester City, but it was at Chelsea that he was able to find a place in the team and wreak havoc on opponents.
Having already clinched two awards at the club’s yearly award function, Palmer will be looking to add more accolades to his resume as his career progresses. He is already on the shortlist for the Young Player and Player of the Season awards. If he wins in both categories, Palmer will join Erling Haaland to be the only player to win the two awards in the same season.
