The Paris Olympics is just three months away and countries have started to finalise their contingents for the games. Basketball has always been one of the most exciting competition in the games and this time seems to be no different. The first country that comes to mind when we speak about basketball is USA and it is due to the wide array of talent the nation possesses.
Team USA has found a lot of success in the Olympics, winning 16 goal medals. A lot of the talent from the NBA has represented the country in the biggest quadrennial event in sports. The likes of Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird have all represented Team USA in the Olympics and won gold medals.
The 2024 US Men’s Basketball team is stacked
Once again, the country has announced a star-studded roster in an attempt to defend their goal medal. Starring LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, the 2024 Men’s US Basketball team does not lack firepower. Coached by Steve Kerr, they are expected to be leading contenders to win the gold, but the road is not expected to be an easy one.
Team USA had a disappointing end to the 2023 FIBA World Championships. They finished fourth in the competition and looked miles off their best. However, that roster did not have enough firepower as compared to the eleven-man roster that has been announced.
A potential starting lineup of Steph Curry, Devin Booker, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid could wreak havoc on any opposition. The likes of Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Anthony Davis and Bam Adebayo will be making appearances off the bench. There is still a spot vacant and it will be exciting to see who is the final player on this star-studded roster.
LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant are going to be the key players on this roster. These are players that have won everything in basketball. LeBron and Durant were part of the Redeem Team that cruised their way to a gold medal in 2008. Curry has represented Team USA before but has never played in the Olympics. He will be looking to win the gold medal as that will cement his place as an all-time great in Men’s Basketball.
2024 USA Men’s Basketball Team has a point to prove
USA has always dominated the sport of basketball, but in the past few years, they have faced a tough challenge from a few European countries. Their failure in the 2023 FIBA World Championships raised a lot of eyebrows about their position in the sport, but the Paris Olympics is their chance to put that debate to rest.
The Dream team and The Redeem team were put together to prove that USA still had the best basketball players in the world. This roster seems to be put together with a similar purpose. The sport is now globally recognised and as a country, USA has contributed a lot to it. The likes of Steph Curry and LeBron James have not played for Team USA for a while now. However, with both these all-time greats nearing their twilight years, a gold medal would certainly be a fitting end to their stint with the US Men’s basketball team.
