The loss of the Indian team in the final match of the ODI World Cup is still in the hearts of cricket fans. Captain Rohit Sharma said his focus is on playing in the upcoming World Test finals and the 2027 ODI World Cup. This means that Rohit has no retirement plans and will play till 2027.
Last year, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team had to lose in both the World Test final and the ODI World Cup final. The reason for both these defeats is in Rohit’s mind.
The 36-year-old Rohit Sharma was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team. But Rohit said that the 50-over World Cup is the real World Cup. Rohit said, ‘Right now I am playing well and I think I can play for a few more years. I wanted to win the 2023 World Cup. The 50-over World Cup is the real World Cup. We have grown up watching the ODI World Cup. The final of the World Test Championship will be held at Lord’s next year and I hope we will be successful there.’
It has been almost six months since India lost the World Cup final to Australia. But Rohit says the defeat is something he is yet to recover from. Rohit said that the World Cup was being held in India. We played excellent cricket till the final round. When we won the semi-final I thought we were one step away from winning the trophy. I kept wondering what it was that caused us to lose the final and honestly I couldn’t think of anything. We played good cricket and were confident, but it was a bad day and Australia had a good day. I don’t think we played bad cricket in the final.’
Rohit is one of the few players who has been associated with the IPL since its inception in 2008 and has not missed a single season. Rohit said that now there is no weak team in the IPL tournament. He said, IPL has progressed a lot in the last decade and all the teams are now competitive. I don’t think there is any weak team in the IPL. It is like the first division team of EPL where any team can beat anyone. But it was not so in the beginning. There is a lot of technology now that people are understanding where to improve and therefore they are picking the right players in the auction.’
