Aditya Mehra, alongside four other boxers from Uttarakhand, and Arti Kumar, among six Delhi pugilists, showcased remarkable performances, securing spots in the quarter-finals on day four of the 3rd Sub Junior National Championship at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida.
Uttarakhand demonstrated dominance in the boys’ section, with four out of five boxers claiming victory in their respective bouts with RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) decisions. Aditya Mehra (35kg) secured a comfortable win against Ansh of Haryana, with the referee halting the contest in round one, providing Uttarakhand with a promising start. Following suit, Pratham Chand (40kg) outclassed Madhya Pradesh’s Khushdeep, clinching a 5-0 win.
Prajwal Singh Bhandari (49kg), Natiak Prasad (58kg), and Yash Kapri (70+ kg) continued Uttarakhand’s momentum, winning their bouts convincingly in the first round with RSC decisions. Additionally, four boxers each from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Manipur also advanced to the boys’ quarter-finals with impressive wins.
In the girls’ section, Arti Kumar (33kg) led Delhi’s charge with a commanding RSC victory over Gujarat’s Lisa in round one. Priyanjali (46kg) and Kaynat (64kg) secured victories with the referee stopping the contest against Suvidnya Dodake of Maharashtra and Sneha Bobus of Kerala, respectively, in round three. Siya (37kg), Ahaana Sharma (49kg), and Sarika Yadav (52kg) were the other Delhi boxers who progressed to the last-8 stage.
Five boxers from Rajasthan and Haryana also secured spots in the quarter-finals. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to be held on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
