Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee became the first Indian women’s doubles pair in table tennis to win a medal at the Asian Games 2022. The duo won the bronze medal with a historic win over the Chinese pair of Chen Meng and Wang Yidi, then World No. 2 and 4 respectively.
Shot putter Kiran Baliyan won India’s first medal in the discipline at the Asian Games 2022. Her bronze medal in the field event was also India’s first shot put medal since the inaugural 1951 Asian Games. Jyothi Yarraji became the first Indian 100m hurdler to win a medal at the 2022 Asian Games.
The national record holder took the silver medal with a timing of 12 minutes and 91 seconds. CA Bhavani Devi became the first Indian fencer to win a medal at the Asian Fencing Championships by winning the bronze medal in 2023. In the quarter-finals, Devi set a remarkable score of 15-10 against Misaki Emura from Japan to move to the semi-finals against Zaynab Dayibekova from Uzbekistan. The Indian Women’s kabaddi team became the first team to win the gold medal thrice in their discipline at the Asian Games after defeating Chinese Taipei in the final. The team had previously won medals in 2010 and 2014.
Sukraty Saxena, Rupam Devedi, Swaranjali Saxena, and Apala Rajvanshi achieved the fastest Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) expedition in a four-wheeler by a group of women. They covered a distance of 6,263 km in 6 days, 14 hours, and 5 minutes. The expedition began at 1:35 a.m. on May 10, 2023, from India Gate, New Delhi, and concluded at 4:30 p.m. on May 16, 2023, at Subroto Park Air Force Station, New Delhi.
