The new president of the Pakistan Cricket Board is planning for the Indian cricket team to come to play in Pakistan and for this he will talk to the president of the BCCI.
The Pakistan Cricket Board will once again appeal to the Indian team to play matches here. New PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi plans to address India’s participation in next year’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan at the ICC meeting in Dubai next week. He is hoping for an assurance from BCCI secretary Jai Shah that the Indian team will travel to Pakistan but that is unlikely at present.
The Executive Board meeting of the International Cricket Council will be held in Dubai next week. Mohsin Naqvi plans to speak to top officials of the global body, including Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah. However, the Indian board will not immediately commit to going to Pakistan for the February-March 2025 tournament as it is about a year away.
The Champions Trophy is an ICC tournament and the BCCI will not close its doors completely as all other cricket-playing countries are going to Pakistan. But the green signal from the Government of India will be given at least a few weeks before the start of the competition. Referring to the ‘hybrid model’ used last year, a PCB source said, ‘The biggest concern for the PCB is whether India will send its team to Pakistan and not repeat the issues of last year’s Asia Cup.’
When asked by a BCCI source, he said, ‘The decision to play in Pakistan can only be taken by the Indian government and the BCCI will have to follow the government’s orders. Also, getting permission from the government would be a rush. And if their new president is hoping for any sort of reassurance for the February-March 2025 contest in March 2024, they are wrong.
