The Inspiring Story Behind Dhruv Jurel’s Test Debut

The Indian cricket team is not short on inspiring and motivational stories. Rishabh Pant dreamt of playing cricket for India after spending a night in a gurdwara. T. Natarajan’s mother used to sell meat on the street. Rinku Singh’s father used to distribute gas cylinders door-to-door and continues to do so. And the latest entrant into this list is Dhruv Jurel.

Jurel hails from a humble background, his father fought in the Kargil War against Pakistan in 1999. Jurel’s father wanted him to follow in his footsteps and serve the nation by joining the army. But destiny had a different calling for Jurel and he became a cricketer.

During Jurel’s initial days as a cricketer, his family had no money to buy Jurel a cricket kit. So, Jurel’s mother sold her jewellery to buy him his first cricket kit. So, one can imagine how proud Jurel’s parents felt when he made his debut for India in the ongoing third Test match against England.
