The cricket turmoil in Pakistan deepens as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf resigns following the team’s disappointing performance in the ICC ODI World Cup held in India. The chairman leaves the decision of his successor to the Prime Minister.
In a surprising turn of events, Zaka Ashraf, who assumed the role of PCB Chairman in June last year, abruptly resigned after a management committee meeting held in Lahore. The move comes in the wake of the team’s dismal outing in the World Cup, adding to the ongoing upheaval in Pakistan cricket.
After stepping down, Zaka Ashraf expressed, “I was working solely for the betterment of Pakistan Cricket, but given the current situation, it will be challenging to continue. The Prime Minister will now decide on my successor.”
Amidst the cricket storm, three foreign coaches, including Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, had already resigned from their positions on January 19. The collective resignations further highlight the dissatisfaction within the cricketing structure.
The successive resignations expose deep-rooted issues in Pakistan cricket, raising questions about the stability and effectiveness of the cricket board’s leadership and management strategies.
